A much improved clinical performance by Darlo sees four goals and a clean sheet, a great confidence boost for Tuesdays massive semi-final

Manager Andy Parkes and his squad travelled to basement club Dudley Sports looking to end their long run of losing six away games on the trot.

After last week's 1-0 loss at Dudley Town, once again the management team rang changes relegated to the bench were Sam Causton, Zico Agyemang and Jamie Holder. Ricard Ricketts was unavailable due to work commitments. In from last week’s bench came the now fit Lucas Hough, Luke Wilson and Aidan Blackham along with Bekir Halil who was making his first appearance of the season.

Darlaston could not have begun the game any quicker scoring two goals in the opening 8 minutes with some exciting football, taking advantage of Dudley’s slow start.

The first coming up in the 5th minute a well struck angled left foot finish from Isaac Cooper. A quick throw in for the alert Bekir Halil reached Leon Taylor, his hold up play and pass to Cooper was inch perfect as was Cooper's finish giving O’Day no chance. 1-0 to the visitors.

Leon Taylor doubled the lead 3 minutes later in the 8th minute. This goal was due to Josh Jones chasing a lost cause, after a free kick was partially cleared by the home defence, Jones chased the ball down and crossed the ball to be met at the far post by defender Liam Smith who headed the ball back across the 6 yard box for striker Taylor to head home, despite the best efforts of keeper John O’Day and Sports captain on the day Parker to keep the ball out.

Darlaston’s best effort in the remainder of the half was a Luke Wilson thunderbolt which whistled past the far post from a tight angle. Dudley Sports were growing into the game the lively Richard Nicholson and Jake Brigdale were starting to cause the visitors problems.

Once again Darlaston nearly gifted their hosts a way back into the game, keeper Connor Hopkins was adjudged by Referee McKittrick to have pick up a back pass on the edge of his 6 yard area when clearly it was a result of a tackle by a Darlaston defender. Dudley Sports free initial effort was blocked and then the follow up shot from Kyle Bramley was well wide. Hopkins made up for his error right on half time with an outstanding save, managing to tip a Richard Nicholson 25-yard effort over the bar.

Two minutes into the second half Darlaston went 3-0 up putting the game beyond Dudley Sports. Bekir Halil’s heading the ball in from two yards after Liam Smith hit the bar from 5 yards out following up from a Jack O'Day save from Leon Taylor. Unfortunately for Smith the bounce of the ball was away from the goal, rather than into the net.

Darlaston’s fourth followed in the 71st minute, Luke Wilson was first to react following up after a fine save from Jack O’Day who kept out another Halil goal bound effort. the keepers parry was buried in the bottom corner by Wilson who scored his first for the club since joining from Wolves Sporting earlier this season.

As the Referee blew for full time Darlaston celebrated putting an end to their unwanted run of six consecutive losses on the road.

The team will now be looking forward to Tuesday evening when Darlaston travel to Midland League Football League Division 1 side Studley for their semi-final in the Birmingham County FA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup the winners face the winners of Cadbury’s and either Atherstone or Black Country Rangers who are yet to play their quarter final after two attempts.
