Tomorrow night, Darlaston welcome Lye Town to The Paycare Stadium in a re-arranged fixture for the postponed game in January that was called off minutes before kick-off due to a frozen pitch. Since that game Lye have continued with their climb up the table and are now in second place with tomorrow evenings game pivotal on deciding the Division’s champions for the season.it will be either Lye or Walsall Wood who have a 4 point lead and they play this evening at home against Romulus, a win will secure the title and automatic promotion, Lye will then have to earn promotion by winning a play-off game against an unknown side that has finished either 3rd or 4th from bottom of a Step 4 league
Lye are currently on an unbeaten run of six games in the league, the lost yesterday evening to Whitchurch Allport in the League Cup after losing on penalties.
Lye are the divisions second highest scorers, jointly behind Racing Club Warwick who have scored 84 and Lye and Highgate find themselves on 82, Lye have conceded 45 goals whereas Darlaston are the leagues second meanest defence conceding just 35 with Walsall Wood leading the table on 33.
Tomorrow evenings game promises so much. Darlaston looking to end the season in a positive manner after their run of recent losses, whereas Lye will be hoping to put pressure on long-time leaders Walsall Wood to claim the Championship.
Lye’s large scoring total has been possible due to the performances of Joe Palmer who is on 26 goals and second in the league goal scorers table behind Ryan Harkin of Highgate who is on 38. Josh Hesson is next on the table on 23, our own Aaron Bishop is on 16 (all of them scored at AFC Wulfrunians) along with Keiron Miller. These are bound to be the dangermen in tomorrow nights game.
We hope as many Darlaston supporters will make the trip to The Paycare Stadium tomorrow night, being the penultimate game in the clubs first season at this level of football in its 149 year history.
