Darlaston Town tomorrow travel to Castle Vale Football Stadium to play Romulus for the third time this season and they will be looking to bring to an end their run of three consecutive defeats against one of the leagues form teams.
The clubs have already met twice this season both at the Paycare Stadium, the first game in August was in the Isuzu FA Vase, Romulus went into the draw for the next round after inflicting a 4-1 win over Darlaston after Kieron Miller opened the scoring in the first half. Four unanswered second half goals from bye from Umar Zaman, Owen Watkins from the penalty spot as well as goals from Dylan Hadley and Jack Whelan put Romulus in the hat for the next round.
The second game in November in the league ended in a 1-1 stalemate Jake Pearson scoring for Darlaston, and captain Umar Zaman equalising eight minutes just eight minutes later.
Tomorrow’s fixture is important for both clubs as the top eight teams are fighting it out for the top two promotion places, Darlaston despite playing well are on a poor run of results whereas Romulus are in good form winning four of their last 6 games, losing just twice, 1-0 at Tividale in midweek and 3-0 at home to Division One side Cotton Green in the MFL League Cup.
The four wins include an 8-0 thumping of Uttoxeter Town at the Castle Vale Football Stadium, followed by a 3-1 win at Studley on their 3G surface. Romulus, then welcomed Shifnal Town, to their 3G surface wining 2-1. Last Saturday a trip to the Riverside at Bewdley saw a dominating 3-0 to Jason Lanns side.
Tomorrow’s fixture promises much too good footballing sides on a flat surface, it promises much. Darlaston Town’s management team will be aware of the talented Owen Watkins who has scored 14 goals so far this season followed by Jack Whelan and captain Umar Zaman both on 7. Dylan Hadley and Cameron Lee are both on one behind on six goals so far.
Darlaston meanwhile after last Saturdays loss at Shifnal have worked immensely hard this week with two big training sessions, both at the Paycare Stadium and Dean, Gill and his management team will have done their upmost to ensure the players are well prepared for tomorrow’s fixture. Some players are still carrying knocks and strains which is not usual at this time of the season, but recent injury victims Kieron Miller and Liam Smith will more than likely play no part in the two Easter fixtures.
