During a WebEx meeting between the FA and all Steps 5 and 6 League Chairman in the National League Pyramid earlier today the FA announced that the 2019/20 season will be cancelled due to fears over coronavirus, and no further games will be played this season.
All clubs and Leagues have known all season that the competitive playing season was to end on Saturday 25th April to enable the FA to reorganise the football pyramid from Step 4 and below.
The FA Leagues Committee are left with a decision on how to decide how promotion and relegation will be decided Sky Sports have reported “The FA League Committee are to determine the terms of that conclusion which seems at present to be a 50:50 split between PPG (points per game) promotion/relegation or complete null and void of the 2019/20 season.”
After the WebEx the FA issued a statement which said “In a statement, the FA said “We will remain in regular dialogue and consultation with all stakeholders regarding next steps across both the men's and women's national league pyramid and grassroots football, following the impact of the coronavirus.
"No official decision has been made yet, but we will make a further announcement at the appropriate time.
"Our primary concern is for the safety and welfare of clubs, players, staff and supporters during this unprecedented time."
So all clubs below step 4 will have to wait for the FA to decide the fate of many clubs, especially after four clubs out of every step 6 league were to be promoted into Step 5, and there were to be playoffs between some step 5 and 4 clubs to be decided on position and points per game.
The FA have clearly not committed to making any decisions anytime soon, so all the affected clubs will have to wait to see what their fate is.
As soon as we have any further information, we will of course update you further, but quite rightly at the moment most people’s thoughts and focus is on the immediate threat and problems we all face.
Please stay safe and well.
