Firstly, Swanny wasn’t at the game last night for personal reasons and everyone at Darlaston is thinking of him.
That’s our fourth semi-final in four years and four wins with Darlaston, and the groups eighth semi-final in eight years with eight wins - respect to the players and staff for those numbers.
Chasetown are having a great season and were strong on the evening, I’d hoped they were going to select a couple of their U21’s and instead they brought in Langston and Butlin - Great !
I think on play there wasn’t much in the game, we had periods of just edging it and so did Chasetown, we started with a shape and personnel not to be out of the game on the hour, then hopefully make positive change to our team in an attempt to try to win the game. Now having that plan is one thing but executing it is something else and that’s all about the players, what we did do, I believe, is probably run more than them, we knew we had to do things twice or three times as much as Chasetown did because their players would have murdered us had we not shown the right level of respect.
Highlights for us was probably the spine - Stan, Hayden, Ryan, Bish and Leo, but let’s be fair everyone was excellent.
It’s great to have a Cup Final to look forward to but we’re back in league action in 48 hours so we now change focus to Long Eaton away on Saturday.
I wish Swanny, Jamie and all at Chasetown all the best for the remainder of the season.
