Dean's Weekend Review - Yesterday we guaranteed a 17th placed finish!

Simon Cox16 Mar - 16:43

Five more wins from our remaining 8 fixtures would see us secure at least a top 7 place

Yesterday we guaranteed a 17th placed finish!

Well, the first thing I want to acknowledge is that we’re now mathematically safe from relegation, the lowest we can finish is 17th - this was 100% our only priority, I’d have bitten your hand off for finishing 18th on goal difference before a ball was kicked in August, an unbelievable positive and classy application to step 4 from the team - I’m mega proud and humbled by them.

Five more wins from our remaining 8 fixtures would see us secure at least a top 7 place even if Wellingborough, Coleshill and Sutton win all their remaining 20 league fixtures.
- Only Anstey and Khalsa can do a league double over us.

As disappointed as I was last Saturday, I’m pleased in equal measure with yesterday’s performance, I know some fans want and expect more at times, but I genuinely think in time when these boys have finished at Darlaston people will only then fully appreciate what these boys have done.

Bedworth are having a tough season and on a poor run, but they have a team full of good step 3 players and are desperately fighting for their lives - add all that together and it was a disaster waiting to happen, however, we were comfortable until the last 10 mins when Bedworth threw the kitchen sink at it, we defended smartly and countered several times and should have added another 2 or 3 goals the last 10 mins if I was going to be over critical. Nat Kelly for Bedworth was top top drawer and held Bedworth together in my opinion, Jonathan and Liam worked their absolute row’s out in attack for them.

Positives for us;
- Safe from relegation
- Another clean sheet
- Another 3 points
- Still loads more in the tank.

With the top eight in the division all winning, six of which was with clean sheets, we didn’t fall any further behind and the season rolls on for at least another week for us.

Wednesday, we welcome Swanny and Chasetown in a Senior Cup semi-final - Chasetown are having a great season and are sitting in the NPL West Division play offs, it’s sure to be a competitive game. I have huge respect for Swanny and his Chasetown players, but we will be looking to get to our first Walsall Senior Cup Final in a zillion years (51 to be exact).

Have a good week

Dean.
