Gill moves quickly to add yet another talented youngster to Darlaston's squad

Yesterday, Darlaston added yet another player under 20 years old to their squad with National League experience

Darlaston Town are delighted to announce another young talented forward has this week signed for the club

Please welcome Leo Wood.

This is the second time 20 year old Leo has signed for Darlaston Town, he originally joined us on loan from Solihull Moors in the Octobert of the 20021/22 season which saw the club promoted into Step 5 for the first time.

Leo has spent the past three seasons as a contracted player at Solihull Moors making his full Vanarama National League debut in March last year at the end of the 2022/23 season against Torquay United coming on as substitute in the 17th minute.

Leo then went onto make a further two full appearances for Moors and well as playing in numerous friendlies for the club. In his time at the Solihull’s Elite Academy, he scored 78 goals and played a big part in the academy’s recent successes.

Last season Leo spent most of the season on loan at Step 3 Stourbridge and Coventry Sphinx to gain experience and minutes. Unfortunately, Leo suffered two blows towards the end of last season firstly a broken ankle which more than likely contributed to Solihull Moors not renewing his contract.

Since the injury Leo has remained with Solihull Moors on a non-contract basis to enable the club to oversee his full recovery from his injury.

Darlaston have signed a huge talent, with a proven record of scoring goals at the highest level on non-league football, a highly sought after 20 year old, and defiantly one to watch.

On securing Leo’s services Manager Dean Gill said “Leo is coming back from a broken ankle, he’s already trained with the lads and looks to be what I already knew, a very good player.

Both Leo and ourselves will need to be patient for a month or two until he’s back match fit, he and I both think we’re a good fit for him right now.

Leo showed big desire to sign for us which means a lot to me and my group, we’re looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I would also like to thank Solihull Moors for their help in making Leo’s move to Darlaston as smooth as possible.
