Darlaston’s management team has worked so hard in the close season to keep almost all of their talented squad together

As we approach the eve of the new season Darlaston Town are delighted to announce their retained players for the coming season.

The first team management team have worked extremely hard to many of last season’s squad together at the club. The core of the squad came with Manager Dean Gill to the club after COVID and have been responsible for the most successful time in the clubs 150 years status as far as league football is concerned. Two promotions in three seasons is no mean feat, both promotions were achieved through the play-offs which created fantastically exciting ends to the seasons.

Manager Dean Gill said on resigning the majority of last season’s successful squad “I am absolutely delighted the majority of last season’s squad have resigned for this coming season. They are a real special bunch of lads, all of them received great offers from other clubs, but their loyalty is unquestionable, and I am delighted they have stayed. Everyone of them has earned the right to play at step 4 and this will be the first time many of them have experienced this level of football.

Yes, we have lost players Aaron Bishop and Kieran Cook left for Bromsgrove Sporting who play a level higher and we could just not compete with the financial offer they were made, Tom Allsop has signed for Quorn who also play in our league, so we will see him a couple of times this season.”

The squads preparation has been meticulous since last season finished. Everything has been planned and prepared in readiness for tomorrows start to the season at Rugby Borough. The time and effort both the management team and players put in cannot be underestimated, supporters only see the occasional training session, they don’t see the long runs the players do on top of training and playing three times a week throughout the season.

So just to confirm the list of players retained from last season’s promotion winning squad are as follows.

Jack Downing
Alexander Foreshaw
Leo Gill
Lewis Gill
Rivel Mardenborough
Reece Mason
Kieran Miller
Jake Pearson
Ben Podmore
James Rowland
Ryan Winwood
