All local non-league football in the Midlands is suspended as the Midland Football League also suspends fixtures from midnight tonight

Following the FA announcement at around 6.15 pm this evening at all Grass Roots football is suspended until further notice, the West Midlands (Regional) League have released the following statement on their Twitter feed.

We have a duty of care to our Players, Match Officials and Volunteers and based on the most recent advice from The FA, have made the decision to suspend ALL FIXTURES until further notice due to the increasing risks associated with the Covid-19 outbreak.

We fully support the avoidance of unnecessary travel and non-essential social contact.

We will update you on a regular basis with any further information as soon as we receive it.

Since the twitter post the League have issued the following statement to all WMRL Clubs

Having just listened to the Prime Ministers announcements, it is clear to the League Management Committee that it has a duty of care to its Players, Match Officials and Volunteers and therefore regrettably, on the most recent advice from The Football Association, has made the decision to suspend ALL fixtures until further notice due to the increasing risks associated with the Covid-19 outbreak.

We fully support the avoidance of unnecessary travel and non-essential social contact.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely over the coming weeks and will await with interest the decision of The Football Association whether to suspend or extend the current season.

We will update you on a regular basis with any further information as soon as we receive it and will aim to give you at least 48-hours notice regarding the resumption of activities.

Therefore all games will now be postponed and depending on how things go in the future they may or may not be played.

Both statements will create many questions, but I would imagine for the foreseeable future all questions will not be able to be answered. Everyone will need to be patient and understanding as no one knows what the future holds.
