Match Preview

Simon Cox4 Aug - 13:01

It has been 13 weeks since Darlaston played their last competitive game, it seems a very long time ago to me, but tomorrow that changes when we play in the Emirates FA Cup at Rugby Boroughr the their first game of their 150th season and another new journey starts.

An awful lot has happened in the last 13 weeks at Darlaston Town, a list that would be far too long to include in this article, but rest assured, the Club, Management Team and players are all better prepared than ever before and are certainly ready for the new season, especially the squad of players manager Dean Gill has assembled.

Tomorrow’s opponents Rugby Borough began their league season last Saturday in the GCE Hire Fleet United Counties League, by beating Leicester Naverna at home 5-1 after being 2-1 up at half time with braces from Gerald McGahey and Harrison Soya, Jordan Wilson was the other scorer. League games must come thick and fast because on Tuesday evening they travelled to Bugbrooke St. Michaels securing a second good win of the season 3-0 McGahey once again was on the score sheet Yahija Todd along with substitute Max Proudlock scoring the other goals putting Rugby Borough after just two games in second place in the League.

A great start for new boss Dave Stringer the ex-Sutton Coldfield, Coalville, Shepshed Dynamo, Rugby Town and Chasetown Manager has a proven successful record over many years and he is accompanied by his trusted No.2 Craig Herbert. Since their appointment at the end of May, Stringer and Herbert have revitalised the existing squad adding new players creating a good competitive squad at Rugby Borough.

The Clubs met last season in the first round of The Birmingham Senior Cup once again at Rugby in a crazy game. Seven minutes into the game Darlaston were two goals both, scored by Tom Bishop. Darlaston then woke up and clicked up several gears finally winning 10-3 to progress into the next round. Tomorrow’s Darlaston Town team will be very different to the one that played that game.

Darlaston meanwhile will go into tomorrow afternoons fixture prepared and ready after a good pre-season campaign which has seen all players spend time on the pitch, ensuring that they are fit and ready for the Season start tomorrow.

There will be some new faces within the Darlaston squad, and the Club will announce their arrival in a post tomorrow morning.

We hope many Darlaston supporters will make the trip down to the end of the M6 to support the club in yet another historic season for two reasons. Firstly, having never played at this level of non-league football and also the start of a new season in the clubs 150th year.

We understand from tomorrow’s hosts that there will be food on sale pre-match in the bar.

Kick-off is 3.00 p.m.

Admission:
Adults £7.00, Concessions £4.00

Free parking is available.

The game is being played at:

We look forward to seeing a large Darlaston following tomorrow as the importance of tomorrow’s fixture cannot be underestimated, especially following the experiences of last season in the Emirates FA Cup.
