Darlaston Town progressed to the Walsall Senior Cup Final for the first time in 52 years following a hard fought win against high riding Chasetown.
In an evenly matched game played in front of 262 spectators saw second half goals from Kieran Cook and Aaron Bishop take The Citizens into the final to be played at The Poundland Stadium home of EFL promotion chasing Walsall on Tuesday 13 May.
The first half was a cat and mouse affair with the visitors having the edge in possession and half chances created. Prolific goalscorer Jack Langston was a thorn in the side of the home defence ably supported by Joey Butlin, Tom Thorley and Ben Lund.
First half chances were few and far between, the best chances game the visitor’s way, Ben Lund heading wide at the back post and a long range effort on the stroke of half time from Langston hitting the top of the cross bar from 30 yards, keeper Amos was well beaten. Leo Wood and Bishop for the home side both failing to get clean shots at goal, following excellent defensive work by Danny O'Callaghan and Kieran Fenton. Darlaston’s best chance of the half saw The Scholars keeper Pond race off his line to block a goalbound Bishop effort.
If the visitors had the better of the first half possession it was Darlaston who had the better of the second half as they put the visitors under pressure by working tirelessly closing down Chasetown at every opportunity denying them space and time on the ball
After a period of pressure Darlaston took the lead on 63 minutes. A defence splitting pass from Bishop released substitute Kieran Cook behind the Chasetown defence, the striker slotting past the advancing keeper Curtis Pond from 25 yards.
The game was put beyond doubt with a quite sublime goal on 84 minutes. Some excellent ball retention between Jake Pearson, Ryan Winwood and Andy Nicol resulted in Nicol's cross being partially cleared to Bishop. Bishop's superb 20 yard curling drive giving keeper Pond no chance, finding the keeper's top right hand corner.
Darlaston, professionally saw out the remaining 10 minutes to book their place to play Coleshill Town in the final.
