Darlaston Town return to action tomorrow just 48 hours since their first win of the season at the Paycare Stadium yesterday, when we travel to Sutton Coldfield to play Boldmere St. Michaels who so far this season are unbeaten at home in the league.
Boldmere St. Michaels like Darlaston Town were promoted through the play-offs from the Midland Football League following the first full season after COVID, in fact the same season we were promoted into the MFL Premier Division at the end of the 2021/22. Boldmere secured promotion by traveling to and beating Chalfont St. Peter 4-0 in the play-off game after finishing runners up to runaway winners Hanley Town.
In the first season in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division Boldmere finished in ninth place, and last season they finished mid table again but this time in 13th place.
This season Boldmere St. Michaels started on opening day in the in the Emirates FA Cup drawing 0-0 at NPL Premier Division side Hanley Town who travelled to Boldmere for replay winning on penalties to progress into the next round.
Boldmere’s league program started with two home games beating newly promoted Racing Club Warwick 2-1 early goals from Sean Devlin and Daniel Gyasi secured the opening day win. After a 10-day break Lye Town were the visitors and thanks to two goals each from Liam Murphy and Jake Collins Boldmere St. Michaels won 4-3 against a spirited Lye Town
Yesterday they travelled to league leaders and much fancied Corby Town, Boldmere went behind after Harry Sweeney scored an own goal after two further goals from Corby’s Fletcher Tull and Daniel Gordon the home side lead 3-0. Boldmere’s Oliver West reduced the scoreline in the 64th minute to give the league leaders a 3-1 win to continue their and beaten run and maintain their place at the head of the table.
Meanwhile yesterday Darlaston’s historic home debut in the NPL produced the clubs first ever win in the NPL beating one of last seasons play-off sides in the division Hinckley LR with two early goals from Jake Pearson and James Rowland who scored again towards the end of the first half, giving Darlaston a 3-0 half time lead. Tyler Bruck on his return to Darlaston crowned an impressive display with the clubs fourth midway through the second half.
Manager Dean Gill is sure to have asked his place to rest up in readiness for tomorrow’s game at The Trevor Brown Memorial Stadium.
As we have said on many occasions, there is nothing that is given on any football pitch, it has to be earned and certainly tomorrow will be no different as Darlaston face one of the toughest tests of the season against the season successful Northern Premier League side and Dean Gill’s squad will go into the fixture as certain underdogs.
