After Saturday’s outstanding win at the Paycare Stadium on Saturday against Sutton Coldfield Town, Darlaston have a quick turn because tomorrow evening they will travel across the Black County to play yet another important Northern Premier League Midlands Division fixture against Lye Town, kick off 7.45 pm.
The clubs have already met once this season in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup in mid-August, Darlaston winning 3-0, Kieran Miller, Jack Downing and James Rowland scored the goals at the Paycare Stadium. But since that loss Lye Town manager Craig Nicholls has turned things around after a poor start at Lye and they have won four of their last five league fixtures putting them fifth in the league form table, just one place behind Darlaston Town.
Up until mid-September despite some close games Lye Town and only picked up a point with a 4-4 draw at Hinckley LR but from 28th of September Nicholls and his management team have changed things, Lye have won four of their last five league fixtures.
The run started with their first win of the season at home 2-1 win over Grantham Town Cooper and Parsons scoring to important goals. An away trip to newly promoted Racing Club Warwick proved fruitful Gardner and Tozer scoring in a second consecutive 2-1 win. A second consecutive away game at in trouble Walsall Wood produced a third consecutive 2-1 win, this time Steward and Tozer scoring.
The fourth consecutive win was back at Lye Town’s Stourbridge Road home, 1-0 against Wellingborough Town Cooper scored the only goal of the game. Last Saturday’s Lye’s winning run came to an end at Loughborough Students a narrow 2-1 defeat against the students.
Goals have been difficult to come by for Lye, but since the signing of the evergreen Matt Gardner who is scored goals at the clubs he has played for, and he is on one so far at Lye. Heading the charts are four players with two goals each Keanu Cooper, Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham, Alfie Steward and Dan Tozer.
Darlaston after Saturday’s outstanding win over Sutton Coldfield Town will have had a little or no time to prepare for tomorrow’s fixture and the club are aware of a couple of new injuries that were suffered during the Saturday’s win therefore the clubs management teams selection plans could be hindered, even though Solihull Moors on loan full back Joel Shambrook will be available.
We are sure the medical team will be assessing the walking wounded this evening to decide who will be available for selection.
