Darlaston Town tomorrow face on of their longest coach journey’s of the season when they play the first of two back-to-back away games by travelling to Wellingborough Town.
Wellingborough Town, like Darlaston, were promoted at the end of last season, not through the play-offs, but as Champions of The United Counties Premier Division South, winning the league by a huge 12 point margin over Racing Club Warwick who were promoted via the play-offs.
Wellingborough Town have started the season well, they are 7th currently three points behind Darlaston having played the same number of games. Manager Jake Stone has kept the majority of last season’s squad together and so far, like Darlaston their start has been impressive, especially at home where they have won four out of their six games so far, so once again Darlaston will go into a fixture as underdogs.
In addition, to the league position the form of the two sides is very similar over the past 7 games, with Wellingborough winning three drawing one and losing two. October started with a 1-0 win at home against Rugby Town followed by a 1-0 loss at Lye Town’s Stourbridge Road ground. A long mid-week trip to inform Sporting Khalsa was next, Khalsa took the points after a 2-1 win.
The following Saturday saw the big game between last years Untited Counties Premier South champions and runners up Racing Club Warwick at the Dog and Duck Stadium, Wellingborough trounced their closest rivals last season 5-0.
Following the big win a trip to Coventry Sphinx was next up, a tough game that ended 2-2. Last Saturday their last league fixture produced a 1-0 win against bottom club Hinckley LR the game decided aby a penalty.
In mid-week Wellingborough exited the Northamptonshire Senior Cup, being beaten well by fellow NPL Midlands Division side Quorn 4-0.
Will Jones heads the scoring charges with five goals, Jessi Obeng with four, followed by Jordan Graham on three. There are eight other players that have scored single and two goals this season.
