After the disappointment of the postponement of Wednesday evenings league game at the Paycare Stadium against Anstey Nomads, Darlaston once again are on their travels south on the M6 tomorrow, when they travel to League leaders Quorn, who have made such an impressive start to the season.
Tomorrow’s opponents lead the Northern Premier League Midlands Division by eight points over second placed Corby Town. Quorn’s record this season is outstanding, of their 17 league games, they have won 15, drawn 2 and scored just under 50 goals and go into tomorrows game on an 11 game winning streak.
It is no surprise that The Red’s also top the form table with six consecutive wins, scoring fourteen goals and conceding just five. The run started with a 3-0 win at Coleshill Town, followed by a close 4-3 victory over Coventry Sphinx at The Stotto Stadium with Sphinx scoring two goals in injury time after Quorn had gone into half time 4-0 up.
A successful 3-1 win at Bedworth United on the first Saturday of November followed and then two consecutive home wins against Hinckley LR 1-0 which was repeated the following Tuesday evening against Darlaston’s local rivals Sporting Khalsa. Last Saturday Quorn travelled to Wellingborough Town and after both sides scored right on the half-time interval, Quorn scored the winner in the last ten minutes of the game to continue their long unbeaten run.
The only teams in the League to have got anything from Quorn were Long Eaton United in the second game of the season and local rivals Anstey Nomads on Bank Holiday Monday..
Quorn have scored 43 goals this season so far, Paddy Webb leading the scoring charts with nine goals, followed by Zack Goodson on eight, along with Courey Grantham who is suspended for tomorrow’s fixture after receiving two yellow cards last week. Player Manager Ryan Beswick completes the top four with 7 goals so far this season.
Darlaston’s enforced break this week can have only done them good, giving time to ease their injury crisis, as players have had a lot longer than expected to recover. As always, Darlaston’s management team will go into tomorrow’s fixture fully prepared and aware of the opposition and will be working hard to try and get something out of the game
