Darlaston's faint play-off hopes were all but extinguished following a 2-0 defeat at Leicestershire based Anstey Nomads. The win for Anstey virtually assures them a play-off spot.

The game was an evenly fought encounter as neither side gave an inch in their cause to make the play offs. Anstey had the edge in possession and fire power Jacob Fenton and Leo Brown proving a thorn in the side of the Darlaston defence. Whilst at the back Jordan Annable and Brad Wilson were majestic.

Early chances were few and far between, former Leicester City keeper Conrad Logan making a fine save from Kieran Cooke whilst for the home side Fenton shot wide.

With Aaron Bishop suspended and the recent move of Rivel Mardenborough to Redditch United, the visitors were lacking their usual fire power finding it difficult to get in behind a superbly marshalled Anstey back line.

The opening goal came on 28 minutes in somewhat fortuitous circumstances. Sam Beaver's shot deflecting off Darlaston defender Harry Chesterton, looping over the head of keeper Stan Amos.

Anstey asserted and doubled their lead moments before half time. Brown won a 50/50 challenge with Alex Foreshaw, wide right before progressing and crossing for Jacob Fenton to score from 8 yards.

The second half became a dour battle, Anstey having the edge, both sides creating half chances but little of note as defences generally had the upper hand.

Anstey had a goal disallowed for off side , whilst substitute James Tague was positive and lively running at the visitors’ defence at every opportunity, creating several half chances.

A strong and organised Anstey defence and midfield had the upper hand, thwarting any Darlaston attack, substitutes Leo Wood and Theo Rowe both unable to convert difficult half chances.

Anstey held on to their advantage comfortably as they cemented their play-off position with an excellent performance.

Darlaston are without a game this Saturday, and after 3 games in 7 days against top six opposition, the rest will allow a recharge of batteries before their penultimate home game against Coventry Sphinx.
