Dean's Weekend Review - Our performance first half was horrific, with what we had to play for we needed to win individual battles and the rest takes care of itself

My teams don’t always win and we’re not pretty show ponies but they always give everything, we’re built on being brilliant at basics

Congratulations to Boldmere on their win yesterday, really friendly positive staff and a great honest bunch of players - huge respect for that.

As a team on and off the pitch we had a great week of preparation, probably the best we’d had all season, or so I thought.

Our performance first half was horrific, with what we had to play for we needed to win individual battles, not worry about the result as that takes care of itself and first half only one or two Darlaston players could hold their heads high which is an absolute shambles when you consider the size of the prize on offer yesterday.

There is/was several real good reasons why this could have happened 5 or 6 months ago and I’ve explained those reasons to anyone interested for months, but not yesterday - there was zero excuse for it, my teams don’t always win and we’re not pretty show ponies but they always give everything, we’re built on being brilliant at basics and unfortunately some of us time-travelled back to step 7, 6 or 5 again - simply not good enough, 100% my responsibility and I’m gutted sick if you hadn’t guessed.

Second half we were much better but the damage was already done and I’m not accepting a better second half as anything positive as it’s not, we shouldn’t need 700 supporters and the fear of getting walloped to motivate us sufficiently, it’s a weakness that has ultimately stopped the impossible dream, it’s not finances or teams having better players it’s 100% on us and that’s very, very sad to me as I’ve obviously failed hugely somewhere - the biggest bloody sadness for me is it wasn’t impossible, it was on.

As I’ve said there’s no positives for me, maybe I could play the role of the spin doctor bull shit manager and acknowledge the abundance of chances we had or maybe that it’s a positive that Boldmere were all over the place and could/should have lost 5 if my players had the mental strength required, managers who have a script of 20 reasons why they don’t win or only pop up on videos when they win is so boring and blow my brains, I certainly won’t be doing that, mentally right we win yesterday and win comfortably and maybe that’s a positive when the season ends but right here right now it’s horse shit over protection of 20 grown men and woman who didn’t want it enough - Simple.

It’s the staff and my job to wring every last drop out of the season and we’ll prepare for every game with the intensity of the last 31, but I won’t be patronised and having my head rubbed into believing we’ve had a good season, I don’t care for that, I could be the proudest man alive bottom of the league trust me if that’s where we deserve to be but if we should finish 5th, 6th or 7th then I want to and I expect it.

We’ll be going harder than ever for the run in because of yesterday, trust me on that and anyone in our camp who can’t cope with that responsibility will be searching for another daft manager who puts up with lack of mentality and honesty before the season ends.

See you Tuesday

Have a nice Sunday !

Dean.
