Tomorrow at the Paycare Stadium is another big day for Darlaston Town as they will once again write a new entry in their clubs history, the club’s first ever Isuzu FA Trophy game when we welcome Cleethorpes Town to the Paycare Stadium.
Cleethorpes Town, also play in the Northern Premier League but due to their location play in the Eastern Division where they have started the exceptionally well, they are second in the league after 5 games, one point behind league leaders Belper Town. The Owls have won 3 and drawn 2 scoring 11 goals and conceding only 2 and are still in the Emirates FA Cup.
Last Saturday they had another big journey to Malvern Town winning 1-0 with an 89th minute goal from Will Anam this after centre half Ben Middleton had been sent off. But Middleton will be available tomorrow after the FA overturned the match officials decision in midweek. He will be joined by two new signings announced today on a months loan from Sheffield United Jayden Prunty and Mekhi Haughton- Parris.
In the next round of the FA Cup it will be a third successive big journey when they will travel to face Southern League premier Central Kettering Town. .
Cleethorpes started the season in great form scoring 17 goals in their opening four games, beating Kimberley Miners Welfare 7-0 in the FA Cup on opening day, followed by a 5-1 win over Brighouse Town at home in their first league game of the season, this was quickly followed by a 1-1 draw at Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Next up was a return to FA Cup action when they beat NPL Midlands Division promotion hopefuls Quorn 4-0. In their remaining league fixtures in August they beat Carrlton Town (3-0), Liversedge (2-0) and drew 0-0 in a local derby on Bank Holiday Monday at home to Grimsby Borough.
Looking at Cleethorpes Town’s recent results, form and signings tomorrow will be a very serious test for Darlaston who will most definitely go into the fixture as big underdogs, and will certainly have to be at their very best to get something from the tie. If the scores are level at full time, the tie will be decided from the penalty spot.
Since Wednesdays heart breaking loss Darlaston will have looked to re-group and reset after conceding a penalty 7 minutes into injury time at the end of the second half when extra time was looming.
We are hopeful of a big supporting crowd tomorrow at the Paycare Stadium for such an important fixture and also another entry in the club’s history books.
