Tomorrow evening at the Paycare Stadium Darlaston Town’s focus switches to a First Round Walsall Senior Cup tie when they face Midland Football League Premier Division side Romulus. Kick off 7.45 pm.
Romulus so far this season have had a difficult start and our currently 13th in the Division. They have played eight games won three, drawn one lost four. Before a big win against Dudley Town, Rom’s suffered a blow when manager Neil Tooth announced he would be stepping down after the game. The Romulus Committee and Directors moved very quickly to appoint Joe Ballinger and George Evans as the club’s new management team.
Opening day, the season Romulus lost 2-0 at fellow NPL Midland Division side Sutton Coldfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup. The following Saturday Romulus opened their league season at their new home at Coles Lane Sutton Coldfield with a 3-0 loss to Stone Old Alleynians , their second fixture a midweek trip to Tividale saw a second loss this time 1-0.
Their next four fixtures produced a win over Wolverhampton Casuals 4-2, at draw at Highgate United and two 3-0 losses at Studley and Northwich Victoria.
Romulus last two games have seen an upturn in results a great 4-2 win over high flying and promotion chasing Dudley Town at Coles Lane, followed by on Saturday a 3-2 win over Uttoxeter Town. The clubs dangerman this season has been ex Darlaston Town front man Dominic Dell with three goals in five games and the remainder of the goals have been shared amongst the squad with several players on one goal each.
Tomorrow night Darlaston will face a very stern test against a confident Romulus team, last season’s last minute 5-4 loss at Romulus proved a huge catalyst in Darlaston’s successful promotion from the MFL Premier Division, following that sickening loss Darlaston them went on a magnificent unbeaten nine game run resulting in promotion to the NPL follow a win at Lichfield City in the play-off final..
After last Saturday’s great performance and draw at Coleshill the players visited Strength & Conditioning Coach Adam Collingswood well equipped and impressive facility which proved to be very successful. But the work never stops behind the scenes , the management team are hopeful of one or two new additions to the squad before tomorrow night’s game which will see the return of recent missing players through injury or suspension.
