Darlaston town tomorrow return to Cup action when they travel to Sutton Coldfield Town for a Second Round Birmingham Senior Cup fixture.
Both clubs received byes in the First Round, last season Sutton Coldfield exited the competition losing the eventual competition winners Aston Villa 3-1 at their Coles Lane home, whereas Darlaston made it through to the semi-finals, beating West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers on the way until losing out to Racing Club Warwick who were well beaten by Aston Villa in the final in mid-May this year.
The Cubs have already met once this season in the NPL Midlands Premier Division at the Paycare Stadium back in the middle of October, Darlaston winning 3-1 with goals from Rivel Mardenborough in the first half followed by two late Kieran Cook goals.
Following that game Sutton Coldfield Town entertained Lye Town at The Dominoes Arena winning 3-1 but following that game the Royals fortunes have not bee so good, losing five consecutive games, four of which were on the road.
The run started with a 1-0 loss at Anstey Nomads, the following game saw a second loss by the same scoreline at Racing Club Warwick. A trip to Darlaston’s rivals Sporting Khalsa resulted in Sutton Coldfield losing 2-0, which was also repeated in their next and final away fixture at Long Eaton United. The Royals returned by to their Dominoes Area to play Shepshed Dynamo who returned home to Leicestershire after beating their hosts 4-1.
Last Saturday’s trip to Grantham Town saw Sutton Coldfield Town gain their first win for a month, a convincing 3-0 win.
Darlaston will go into tomorrow’s fixture on the back of an excellent performance against the league leaders Quorn, the 1-1 result brought an end to Quorn’s outstanding 14 game winning run. But after such a hard game, Darlaston’s injury list has lengthened after players suffered new injuries. Darlaston’s management team will look to patch up the squad once again for tomorrow’s fixture which they will go into as underdogs because of their injury crisis.
