Tomorrow night, the Paycare Stadium is sure to be another special night when Darlaston Town welcome fourth placed Worcester City for an important Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division fixture.
Worcester City like Darlaston Town were promoted at the end of last season after being crowned Hellenic League Champions following a fantastic season only using a single game in a 38 game season, some achievement. In addition to a successful league season Worcester City had a brilliant run in the Isuzu FA Vase, before suffering heartbreak losing in the semi-final to Great Wakering Rovers after a two legged tie. Worcester took a 1-0 lead to Great Wakering where they lost 2-1. The tie was decided from the penalty spot Worcester losing out 5-4.
Worcester City have adjusted to life in the northern Premier League very well in the eight games played so far, they’ve won five and lost three in the FA Cup They exited the Preliminary Round stage beaten 2-1 at home by Dudley Town and in the FA Trophy like Darlaston at the First Qualifying Round stage after a 4-1 defeat also at home against fellow Northern Premier League side Hinckley LR.
In the league, however their season has been impressive starting with an impressive 1-0 win over one of last season’s play-off sides Anstey Nomads. This was followed two further home wins against newly promoted Racing Club Warwick and Lye Town. Away from home beat Loughborough Students 3-1 and lost 2-0 at promotion chasing Corby Town.
September has produced a 4-1 loss to Quorn at home, followed by a second loss 3-2 at Grantham Town. Last Saturday they returned to Claines Lane last Saturday when they avenged their FA Trophy loss to Hinckley LR by beating the visitors 3-2 in a close game.
Dangermen for Worcester City include Kyle Belmonte who is known to most Darlaston Town fans, last season he topped the Hellenic League scoring charts scoring 43 goals in 55 games. So far this time this term has scored on four occasions followed by Elliott Hartley on three followed by ex-Studley front man Zac Guinan on two along with Will Owens, Izak Reid and Charlie Wise.
Darlaston, meanwhile after another great performance on Saturday securing a 3-0 win at Loughborough Students will have prepared well for tomorrow’s fixture, but the squad are carrying some injuries to key players, therefore manager Dean Gill will face a selection poser for such an important game.
