A Final Appeal to Black Country Football Fans Before Tomorrow’s Game Against Allscott

Simon Cox6 Oct 2017 - 18:05

Come and support The Citizens on Non League Day

Tomorrow is officially Non-League Day, an important day for all us who play semi-professional football.

Non-League Day was set up some seven years ago to try and get season ticket holders of Premier League and Championship Clubs, because there was no football played on an International weekend, to visit and support non-league football. This year non-league day is also in conjunction with Prostate Cancer.

So tomorrow, why not take advantage to come and see what Darlaston Town 1874 is all about, a friendly volunteer run Club managing a fantastic facility well-known within the Black Country Area as the Bentley Pavilion, although being re-named to our sponsors and now also called the Paycare Ground, to see non-league football at its best.

Tomorrow we entertain Allscott from Shropshire recently promoted from Division Two of The West Midlands League following successful seasons in the Shropshire & Mercian League currently lying in seventh place in the League Table having played seven games, four wins a single drawer and two losses.

Allscott formed for the 2010/11 playing in The Shropshire County League Division One, finishing in fifth position in their first season. The following season they won Division One, securing promotion into the Mercian League for the start of the 2012/13 Season.

After four seasons, finishing in ninth, twelfth and third in 2015/16 they finished runners up and were promoted through the football pyramid into The West Midlands (Regional) League Division Two.

Last Season, they finished third behind Telford Juniors and West Bromwich United, but due to West Bromwich United folding who had previously been promoted, Allscott found themselves promoted at the eleventh hour just before the beginning of this into Division One.

Allscott have a junior section playing their football on Saturday mornings in The Midland Junior Premier League running teams from U11’s level up to U16’s, providing a platform and development for players to enter the first team.

So, why not come and see two sides in the top half of The West Midlands League Division One pit their wits against each other, trying to secure three points with a friendly Black Country welcoming Darlaston Town (1874) is a Club that provides excellent food both before, during and after the game, cheap beer with Carling at £2.70 per pint and the bar is open throughout the game, entrance fee £3.00, programme and concessions £2.00 and children under 10 free.

There is ample parking which is also free, so why not come and have a great afternoon, a couple of pints and your lunch before the game for a fraction of the cost of a Premier League or Championship ticket.

We look forward to meeting you this weekend and hope that once you have been to the Paycare Ground and had the Darlo experience, we will see you on a more regular basis.

I mentioned previously that Non-League Day was in conjunction with Prostate Cancer UK. No doubt many of you have seen the published articles and adverts in the press and on TV over the past seven to ten days with Premier League Managers and Alan Pardew appealing on behalf of the Charity. Please click the video link to see an interview with Alan Pardew where he talks about Non-League Football Day and Prostate Cancer UK.

Prostate Cancer is something that all us men have to worry about and the likelihood is that many people that will be at the Paycare Ground will have known someone, lost a family member or have a family member suffering from this horrible Cancer.

Therefore, I would make a personal plea, because someone close and dear to me is currently suffering from this horrible cancer, please support the charity by making a donation to Prostate Cancer UK.

Please text BADGE to 70004 and choose to donate either £3, £5 or £10 to Prostrate Cancer UK and in return they will send you the hugely popular “Man of Men” badge for you to wear with pride, so when you see Football Managers and Pundits the badge is now been worn on the left lapel on a regular basis and is becoming highly recognised.

Every small donation will mean that research can take place, as currently, whilst watching the first half of Saturdays’ game one person will have passed away from Prostate Cancer.

Please take the time to make a donation, as the Charity is worthwhile funding research into treatments and a cure.
